Opensity Solutions launches a dedicated Law Firm MSO practice led by Rob Morris, helping firms separate legal practice from business operations with back-office support at scale.
Opensity Solutions, a tech-enabled managed services provider for legal and professional services firms, has launched a dedicated Law Firm Management Services Organization (MSO) practice. The new offering is designed to help law firms separate the practice of law from the business of law, with veteran international legal executive Rob Morris leading the strategy and development.
“The legal industry is being reshaped by a convergent set of pressures that go well beyond any single disruption. AI, client pricing pressure, talent scarcity and legacy infrastructure are all compounding at once,” said Michelle Deichmeister, CEO of Opensity. “The structural response is to separate the practice of law from the business of law, with MSOs as the vehicle for that split.”
Opensity already delivers core business functions including IT help desk support, document processing, workplace services, on-site facilities, legal billing, and records governance. Under Morris, the company will architect those capabilities specifically for law firms adopting an MSO model, allowing firms to outsource back-office operations without building their own infrastructure.
“Our clients have been asking us to help them build more holistic back-office functions, and that’s exactly what we’ve set out to do,” said Christopher Petrini-Poli, Executive Chairman of Opensity. “What we’re hearing from clients is a real shift in how they want their services delivered – and increasingly, they’re asking us to invest alongside them in that support.”
Petrini-Poli noted that MSOs give firms a way to bring in capital to fund growth and create better retention tools for lawyers. Opensity is backed by Renovus Capital Partners, a private equity firm that has completed more than 20 acquisitions in legal services over the past five years.
“We partnered with Opensity because it extends that work directly into firm operations, helping firms treat their operations as a source of strategic advantage rather than overhead,” said Lee Minkoff, Managing Director at Renovus. “The partnership with Rob is a clear signal of the caliber of talent this platform attracts.”
Morris, an internationally recognized legal industry executive, will lead the practice’s development. The MSO model is intended to let firms keep their lawyers focused on client work while Opensity handles the business side – from technology and facilities to billing and records management.
“There’s still a lot of confusion about what MSOs actually are and how they work, and we’re glad to be working with Rob to help tell that story more clearly,” Petrini-Poli said.
