OpenAI's SMB program bundles webinars, in-person Academy events and partner discounts to push ChatGPT Work beyond simple chat into accounting, marketing and eCommerce tasks.
OpenAI wants small businesses to treat ChatGPT as an extra employee, not just a chatbot. The company on Tuesday launched a program built around ChatGPT Work, its agent for tasks that go beyond simple Q&A.
The initiative bundles webinars on using the tool for accounting, marketing and eCommerce with in-person Academy events offering hands-on exercises. It also includes partner plugins, discounts and a library of customer stories and interactive guides, OpenAI said in a press release.
“We’re most excited for small businesses to explore use cases with ChatGPT Work, and let it take on tasks that would have otherwise been outsourced, fallen to the wayside, or handled as one of the many hats an owner has to tackle,” the company said.
ChatGPT Work launched July 9 as a new agent in ChatGPT, designed to operate across a user's apps and files. OpenAI described it as capable of spending hours on a project and producing sheets, slides, docs and web apps. The SMB push is an attempt to get that capability into a segment that typically lacks dedicated IT staff and budgets for enterprise software.
The company framed the program as a way to deliver enterprise-grade technology in a format small businesses can actually use. ChatGPT Work runs on GPT-5.6, OpenAI's latest model available across all subscription plans.
“Small businesses can choose the right level of intelligence model for the work at hand, and together, they give lean teams more flexibility to balance quality, speed and cost,” the company said.
Research from Citadel Securities, published July 14, suggests the market is already moving in that direction. Since ChatGPT's launch, new U.S. business applications have risen while median headcount at seed-stage startups has fallen. A founder who once needed separate employees for accounting, marketing, customer service and compliance can now pool those functions across a smaller team, the firm found.
OpenAI's program is live now with no enrollment deadline set.
