New Shows to Stream: 'The Westies,' 'Ghost in the Shell' and More

This weekend's streaming slate is packed. A new MGM+ crime drama, a fresh anime take on a cyberpunk classic, and the latest season of a hit supernatural series all land across the major platforms.

'The Westies' (MGM+)

Set in 1980s New York, this drama follows the Irish gang of the same name as it fights the Italian mafia and law enforcement over the construction of the Jacob Javits Convention Center on its Hell's Kitchen turf. The cast includes Titus Welliver, J.K. Simmons, Tom Brittney, and Sarah Bolger. New episodes drop Sundays; the finale airs August 23.

'Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045' (Prime Video)

Science Saru, the studio behind Devilman Crybaby and Danadan, created this new series based on the 1989-91 manga. Set in a futuristic Japan (2029), it follows elite cyborgs and tactical anti-terrorism forces. The first season has 10 episodes, with the finale on September 8. The original 1995 film is also available on Prime Video.

'Jujutsu Kaisen' Season 3 (Hulu)

The dubbed and subbed versions of the popular supernatural action anime are now streaming. It follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he trains at Tokyo Jujutsu High to fight monstrous Curses. All 12 episodes are available.

'The Long Walk' (Prime Video)

This adaptation of the Stephen King novel is set in a dystopian 1970s America after a second Civil War. Each year, 50 boys must walk at 3 mph or faster until only one remains. The film has strong performances and real character depth, making it one of the better King adaptations.

'House of the Dragon' Season 3, Episode 4 (HBO/Max)

The fourth episode of the Game of Thrones prequel airs Sunday. The season has had mixed reviews so far, with some critics praising the second episode and others finding the pacing frustrating. The season finale is scheduled for August 9.

'Sugar' Season 2 (Apple TV+)

Colin Farrell returns as private detective John Sugar, investigating the disappearance of a wealthy movie producer's granddaughter. The first season had a major twist. New episodes drop Thursdays; the finale is August 6.

'Silo' Season 3 (Apple TV+)

This British drama follows a woman named Emma over six decades, from the 1900s through the 1970s, as she rises from maid to the world's richest woman. It has a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score. The first three episodes are out now.

'Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed' (Apple TV+)

Tatiana Maslany stars in this dark comedy about a divorced fact-checker who is blackmailed after forming an online relationship with a male sex worker. New episodes drop Tuesdays; the finale is July 14.
