The promotion allows CEO Rocco Marinaccio to focus on customer adoption and strategic partnerships as NanoXplore scales graphene production.
NanoXplore promoted Ilia Chliapnikov to chief operating officer, effective July 6. The move puts Chliapnikov in charge of global manufacturing operations and lets CEO Rocco Marinaccio focus on customer adoption and strategic partnerships.
Chliapnikov joined NanoXplore in March 2022 as global director of operations. He later became vice-president of operations. In those roles, he led the launch of a greenfield facility in North Carolina and oversaw the capacity expansion of the company's dry process graphene module.
Before NanoXplore, Chliapnikov held operations roles in automotive, food manufacturing, and steel. He holds a Six Sigma Green Belt and a mechanical engineering degree.
"Since joining NanoXplore, he has been a driving force behind our operational performance – strengthening our plants, expanding our footprint across the United States, and instilling the discipline that turns our technology advantage into profitable growth," Marinaccio said. "This appointment lets me spend more time where I can add the most value – deepening our relationships with customers and strategic partners."
NanoXplore is the world's largest manufacturer of graphene by volume, with 4,000 metric tons of annual production capacity in Montreal. The company supplies graphene powders and graphene-enhanced plastic and composite products. It also makes silicon-graphene enhanced Li-ion batteries for energy storage and defense.
The promotion puts operations in Chliapnikov's hands, freeing the CEO to push sales in new markets including advanced plastics and energy storage – areas where the company holds regulatory approvals in North America, the EU, and the UK.
