Mumbai Rains: Red Alert, School Closures, Trains and Flights Update

Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are under a red alert as heavy to very heavy rainfall continues to lash the region. Severe waterlogging has disrupted normal life in parts of Mumbai, prompting school closures in Palghar district. Local train services on all major suburban routes are running as usual, officials said. Flight operations at Mumbai airport remain unaffected so far, though passengers were advised to check with their airlines for any last-minute changes.

Palghar district authorities ordered all schools to remain closed Thursday as a precautionary measure. No such order has been issued for Mumbai or Thane yet.

Social media posts showed waterlogged roads in low-lying areas of Mumbai, with commuters reporting delays on some bus routes. The India Meteorological Department warned of continued heavy downpours over the next 24 hours.

Local trains, the city's lifeline, are operating on schedule across the Central, Western, and Harbour lines, railway officials confirmed. No cancellations or major delays were reported as of mid-morning.

Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport are proceeding normally, an airport spokesperson said. Travelers were urged to stay in touch with their carriers for updates.

Authorities have deployed pumps and rescue teams in vulnerable areas. Residents in low-lying zones were advised to stay indoors unless necessary.
