Heavy rain in Mumbai diverted five flights to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Vadodara by 3:30pm Monday, the airport operator said.
Five flights arriving at Mumbai airport were diverted to other facilities by 3:30pm Monday as heavy rain swept the city, officials said. The Mumbai International Airport said IndiGo flights 6E 595 (Raipur-Mumbai) and 6E 1340 (Singapore-Mumbai) were diverted to Hyderabad. Akasa Air flight QP 1110 (Delhi-Mumbai) was sent to Ahmedabad. Air India's AI 2772 (Kolkata-Mumbai) was diverted to Bengaluru, and Oman Air's WY 203 (Muscat-Mumbai) went to Vadodara, the airport operator said in a statement.
Mumbai and its suburbs have been under very heavy rain for several days, disrupting road and rail traffic. The diversions were a direct result of low visibility and poor weather conditions at the main airport. Officials did not say when normal operations would resume.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours across the coastal districts of Maharashtra.
