Thirty long-distance and intercity trains on the Mumbai-Pune corridor are canceled through July 17. Central Railway announced the cancellations after multiple landslides hit the Bhor Ghat section on July 6, officials said Friday.
Heavy rain triggered slides between Karjat and Lonavala stations, damaging all three tracks. The worst damage hit the Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill cabins, where restoration crews face difficult terrain and dangerous conditions.
One of the three lines has been restored. Work continues on the other two, with teams coordinating with district administration and the forest department, officials said.
The canceled schedule includes 14 daily trains, eight services on specified dates and eight special trains. Among the daily cancellations: the Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, and Intercity Express services between Mumbai and Pune, plus the CSMT-Hyderabad Express, Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail, and the Hubbali-Dadar Express. The Mahalaxmi Express, Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express, Dadar-Satara Express, and Dadar-Sainagar Shirdi Express are off on specific dates. Special trains connecting Mumbai and Pune with Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City, and Hazrat Nizamuddin are also suspended.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the work Thursday and described the landslides as "heavy," noting "significant" damage to the lines and surrounding area.
Passengers should check the NTES app or the railway helpline for updates. Updates are also posted on official social media accounts, the release said.
