Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Hong Kong opened a roving exhibition Wednesday at The Wai, the first of three stops in its annual MSF Day campaign. The exhibition, titled "Keep Life Breathing," will also visit Festival Walk and TKO Plaza through July. It features real stories from MSF staff and patients in conflict zones and includes a dedicated zone on the Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
MSF has deployed more than 600 staff on the ground in the DRC in response to the current outbreak. The exhibition displays full personal protective equipment (PPE) worn by frontline workers, along with disinfection and isolation materials used in treatment centres. A documentary, Affliction, screens footage from MSF's response to the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak.
Chiu Cheuk-Pong, who served as a nurse in Liberia during the 2014 response, said the current DRC outbreak is severe. The strain, Bundibugyo virus, has no approved vaccine or treatment, he said. "Our past experience tells us that responding to the outbreak is not impossible; sustained international attention and support for humanitarian work remain crucial."
MSF funds more than 90% of its operations through small private donations, the group said. It thanked its corporate partners for supporting MSF Day 2026 and the exhibition: BAS (HK) Limited, BB Group Company Limited, Wilson Garment Accessories (Int'l) Limited, Samily Group Company Limited, Ampco Industries Limited, Octal Capital Limited, Tomson Group Limited, and Winga Apparel Group Limited.
MSF Day is observed annually on July 7. The organisation said it aims to maintain independence from political, economic, or religious influence to provide aid based solely on medical needs.
