A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 64% of 1,166 Americans believe it is not appropriate for President Donald Trump and his family to earn money from cryptocurrency investments while in office. The survey, conducted Aug. 14-17, showed a sharp partisan divide. Among Republicans, 69% said the investments were appropriate. Among Democrats, 92% said they were not.
A June report from the U.S. Office of Government Ethics disclosed that Trump had earned $1.4 billion from crypto-related ventures in 2025, including through his family’s World Liberty Financial company and the Official Trump memecoin (TRUMP). White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has repeatedly said there are “no conflicts of interest.”
Several lawmakers have called for investigations. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in July introduced legislation to create a federal anti-corruption agency, citing the president’s “extremely lucrative cryptocurrency ventures.”
On Wednesday, Trump held a White House press conference with crypto executives, urging the Senate to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. The bill, which would define regulatory roles for digital assets, faces a cloture vote on Sept. 15.
