Rock chip samples from Miramar's Joy Helen prospect show high-grade copper, lead and silver. The MD says the Chain Pool project could be larger than historic workings suggest. Assays from recent auger drilling are due mid-July.
Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) has returned high-grade copper, lead and silver assays from rock chip sampling at the Joy Helen prospect within its 100%-owned Chain Pool project in Western Australia's Gascoyne region.
Samples collected during the recent auger drilling campaign included MR0012 and MR0013, taken almost 200 metres east of the historic workings near a basin-margin fault highlighted by a recent gravity survey and a copper-in-soil anomaly. MR0013 showed relict breccia textures similar to the main Joy Helen ore, with strongly anomalous barium values.
Managing Director Marion Bush said the Chain Pool project has the right age, geology and structural settings for a large base metal deposit, with evidence of high-grade copper-lead-silver mineralisation at Joy Helen. She added that the new rock chip results, combined with the detailed gravity survey, suggest the opportunity could be significantly larger than the historic workings indicate.
Bush noted that in the halos around large sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) deposits like Mount Isa and Abra, barium values commonly run in the thousands of parts per million. The high barium in the weathered samples could represent a halo to additional SEDEX mineralisation away from the main Joy Helen workings.
Further modelling of the gravity data has highlighted multiple basin-margin faults with similarities to Mount Isa. The company is waiting on auger drilling assay results, expected from the laboratory in mid-July. Once all results are received, Miramar will finalise plans for a passive seismic HVSR survey to map basement topography and faulting, and its first dedicated bedrock drilling campaign at the project.
M2R shares traded flat at 0.3 cents, giving a market capitalisation of about $6.3 million.
