Meteoric Resources' Caldeira DFS confirms low capex, low opex, long life rare earth asset. Stock up 2.78% as CEO touts strategic importance.
Meteoric Resources (ASX:MEI) released a definitive feasibility study for its Caldeira rare earth ionic clay project in Brazil, saying the study confirms low capital intensity and operating costs. The DFS draws on more than 55,500 samples from 90,000 metres of drilling, three years of metallurgical bench and pilot testwork, and engineering studies completed by Ausenco.
CEO Stuart Gale said the study positions Caldeira as a long-life asset with abundant light and heavy magnetic rare earth elements essential to permanent magnet production. “The DFS confirms Caldeira as a low capital intensive, low operating cost, long life asset,” Gale said in a statement. He added that the project is designed to supply rare earth materials into global markets driven by electrification, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and defence.
The company noted the mineral resource updates confirm Caldeira as one of the largest rare earth ionic clay reserves known outside China. Meteoric acquired the project in March 2023 and has since completed resource development drilling, metallurgical characterisation, process design testwork, and mine scheduling.
Gale said the company continues discussions with strategic partners, government credit agencies and commercial financiers. “The combination of scale, product quality, cost competitiveness and strategic importance provides a robust foundation and an attractive solution for downstream participants seeking to secure long-term supply,” he said.
Shares rose 2.78% to 18.5¢, giving the company a market capitalisation of $523.1 million.
