Metal Hawk (ASX: MHK) has defined a new high-grade gold discovery at the Thylacine south zone within its Leinster South project in Western Australia's Agnew-Lawlers region.
The Numbat lode was found during a 10-hole reverse circulation drilling program that followed up on earlier high-grade results from the Thylacine prospect. Best intercepts included 9m at 12.3 grams per tonne from 70m, with a 5m section grading 20.7 g/t. A second hole returned 8m at 3.6 g/t including 4m at 6.1 g/t. Another hole hit 3m at 4.2 g/t including 1m at 10.8 g/t.
Early interpretations from the company suggest the lode trends north-to-south, oblique to most of the northwest-trending parallel veins mapped at surface. Metal Hawk said additional drilling, particularly oriented diamond core, would be needed to validate that interpretation and improve confidence in the geological model.
Managing director Will Belbin said the Numbat assays were among the strongest returned from Leinster South to date.
"Our campaign has shown the stacked nature of mineralised quartz veins at Thylacine with drilling demonstrating increasing grade and thickness–we now have an excellent opportunity to build on these results," he said.
Two RC holes drilled at the Thylacine main zone, about 200m northwest of the south zone, targeted mineralisation identified from previous drilling but did not test the Numbat lode. Those holes returned best assays of 4m at 1 g/t, 1m at 2 g/t, and 3m at 3.4 g/t. Two further holes east of Numbat targeted separate mineralisation and also missed the lode.
The next RC drilling campaign is due to start in late September. Results from four outstanding holes are still pending.
