Merck Licenses HIV Pill to Generics, Widening Access (MRK)

Merck (MRK) signed licensing deals with Viatris (VTRS), Aspen and other generic drugmakers to broaden access to its oral HIV drug alimatravir, the companies said. The agreements cover manufacture and distribution in low- and middle-income countries. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The move places the drug in a pricing and availability corridor that generic competition typically opens. For Viatris, the deal adds a newer HIV asset to a product line that includes older antiretrovirals. The stocks moved less than 1% on the session.

Merck holds an Alpha Score of 58 on a 100-point scale, a Moderate label. Viatris scores 49, Mixed. Both trade in the Healthcare sector.
