MCX is among six stocks held by the three top-performing small-cap funds over the past year. The combined position across TRUSTMF, Bank of India, and Motilal Oswal funds totals Rs 221.7 crore.
Three of India's best-performing small-cap funds over the past year held six stocks in common as of July, the latest portfolio data from ACE MF shows.
The funds – TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund (up 32.46% in one year), Bank of India Small Cap Fund (27.41%), and Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund (26.42%) – each disclosed holdings that overlapped across these six names.
Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) was one of them. Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund held the largest position by market value at Rs 97.03 crore, followed by Bank of India Small Cap Fund at Rs 70.62 crore and TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund at Rs 54.04 crore. Across the three funds, the aggregate MCX position stood at roughly Rs 221.7 crore.
The largest common holding by total market value was a stock in which Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund held Rs 187.36 crore, Bank of India Small Cap Fund held Rs 79.39 crore, and TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund held Rs 48.75 crore, for a combined Rs 315.5 crore. Another common stock attracted Rs 214.5 crore across the three funds, driven mainly by Motilal Oswal's Rs 160.02 crore stake.
Bank of India Small Cap Fund allocated between 0.29% and 2.82% of its portfolio to each of the six stocks. Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund's individual holdings ranged from 0.60% to 2.46%. TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund's exposure to each common stock fell between 0.97% and 1.89%.
The overlap suggests these fund managers saw similar value in the same mid- and small-cap names during a period when small-cap indices broadly outperformed. The ACE MF data covers portfolio disclosures made by each fund for July.
For investors tracking small-cap fund positioning, the common holdings offer a window into where some of the year's top performers placed their bets. The six stocks collectively represent a concentrated wager by managers who have beaten the category average over the past 12 months.
