M. Angamuthu assumed additional charge as Chairperson of the Cochin Port Authority on Monday. He is currently serving as Chairperson of the Mumbai Port Authority, a role he continues to hold.
Angamuthu is a 2002-batch officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He previously served as Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority and headed the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, or APEDA. Since 2023 he has also been Chairperson of Dredging Corporation of India Ltd.
His career includes stints as Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam and as Collector, Deputy Commissioner, and District Magistrate in several Assam districts. He has held roles at the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, the Guwahati Smart City Project, and the Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme.
The additional charge at Cochin gives the port a leader with hands-on experience across major Indian ports and export promotion agencies. The appointment comes at a time when the port is expanding its container handling capacity and deepening its draft to accommodate larger vessels.
