The song's title comes from a moment LEIGH described as a shift in perspective. She was complaining to God about her circumstances, she said, when she felt the Holy Spirit tell her to "count it all joy." That changed her approach. Instead of writing from frustration, she wrote an upbeat anthem about choosing faith when nothing feels joyful.
LEIGH had stepped away from music entirely after becoming seriously ill. She put her songwriting and artist plans on hold while she went through treatment.
