The Legion will hold a national ceremony and cake cutting in Ottawa on July 17 to mark 100 years of supporting veterans and community service.
The Royal Canadian Legion will mark its 100th anniversary with a national public commemoration ceremony in Ottawa on July 17, the day after its official founding date in 1926. The event, at Legion headquarters, will include a cake cutting, a Canada Post stamp unveiling, and remarks from Legion officials. Similar celebrations are planned at branches across Canada on or around the same day.
The Legion was established in 1926 and has grown into Canada's largest veteran support and community service organization. It holds a non-profit structure with branches in the U.S. and Europe, and counts more than 300,000 members, many of whom volunteer at the branch level. The national commemoration is open to the public; media attendees are asked to register in advance by e-mailing the Legion's public relations office.
Bond of the Legion's communications team handles media inquiries. The July 17 date coincides with the anniversary of the organization's incorporation.
