Lachlan Star's RC drilling at New Waverley returned 16m at 5.3 g/t gold, confirming a shallow high-grade system. CEO says results vindicate an expanded program with more assays due in six weeks.
Lachlan Star (ASX: LSA) has confirmed an emerging high-grade gold discovery at the Waverley Pit area of its New Waverley project in Western Australia. Follow-up reverse circulation drilling returned a best intercept of 16 metres at 5.3 grams per tonne gold from 44 metres, including 4 metres at 20 g/t.
The program drilled 15 holes for 4,570 metres, targeting down-plunge continuity of mineralisation identified in an earlier diamond campaign. That first campaign had returned 6.15 metres at 8.6 g/t gold including 2.9 metres at 17.7 g/t.
Other notable results from the RC program included 8 metres at 5.37 g/t gold from 44 metres including 4 metres at 10.25 g/t; 12 metres at 3.11 g/t gold from 52 metres including 8 metres at 4.5 g/t; and 8 metres at 2.35 g/t gold from 48 metres.
The company said the early results reinforce the interpretation of a shallow mineralised shear corridor hosting high-grade quartz veins. Mineralisation remains open in all directions along a 400-metre strike length.
Chief executive Andrew Tyrrell said the results support the geological model being developed at New Waverley. “These outstanding results clearly show that we have a significant emerging high-grade gold discovery on our hands,” he said. “Importantly, we are beginning to see consistency in the geology and structural controls across the broader system.”
Tyrrell said the company expanded the RC program after seeing positive field observations of quartz veining and sulphide mineralisation. “The combination of these shallow high-grade intersections, extensive quartz veining and sulphide mineralisation together with emerging structural controls gives us increasing confidence that New Waverley hosts a significant mineralised system containing multiple high-grade positions.”
Assays for the remaining RC holes and selective one-metre re-splits from mineralised intervals are expected over the next six weeks. Those results will feed into the evolving geological and structural model for the project.
