Klarna brings QR-code based BNPL to lululemon stores in UK and Germany, targeting the $28 trillion physical retail market. The move builds on a five-year online partnership.
Klarna has expanded its buy-now-pay-later service to lululemon stores in the UK and Germany, letting shoppers split payments or defer them with a QR code scan at the till. The move extends a five-year online partnership between the two companies onto physical retail floors.
At checkout, customers scan a QR code with their phone and pay through the Klarna app. They can spread the cost into interest-free installments or delay payment for a month. No separate card or application is needed in the queue, the company said.
"We've spent years making online checkout smarter, and now we're bringing that same freedom to the till," Klarna Chief Commercial Officer David Sykes said in a statement. "Shopping shouldn't be less flexible the moment you walk into a store."
The in-store rollout comes as Klarna pushes beyond e-commerce, where it has built its brand. Global in-person spending is estimated at about $28 trillion a year, nearly four times the amount spent online, according to industry data cited by Klarna.
Lululemon integrates the payment option through its existing setup with payments platform Adyen.
