Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party and newly elected MLA from Bihar's Bankipur constituency, declared a net worth of roughly ₹198 crore in his nomination affidavit for the bypolls held on 30 July. The former election strategist, who won an election for the first time, reported movable family assets of about ₹122 crore and immovable assets of ₹86 crore.
The bulk of the movable wealth sits in bank deposits and a private company's shares rather than listed equities. Kishor holds fixed deposits worth ₹7.36 crore at HDFC Bank, while his wife holds ₹95.26 crore in shares of Vedhas Ventures Private Limited. His own stock portfolio is modest by comparison: 1,985 shares of Bharti Airtel valued at approximately ₹38,11,994 and 73,243 shares of Indian Overseas Bank worth around ₹25,32,743.
His spouse's mutual fund investments total ₹1,24,72,270. Kishor has two life insurance policies valued at ₹4,08,99,079 and ₹1,26,00,044. The family also holds non-agricultural land worth ₹9,75,00,000 and residential buildings valued at ₹76,54,00,000. The affidavit lists cash in hand of ₹65,570 for Kishor and ₹1,95,200 for his wife. While Kishor has no savings in NSS or Postal Savings, his wife has ₹58,57,638 in a Post Office PPF account. The family's jewellery includes 475 grams of gold and 200 grams of silver. Kishor also possesses a dismantled rice mill.
Before entering politics, Kishor worked for eight years as a public health professional, with a period of association in the United States. His political career began with Narendra Modi's campaign in the 2012 Gujarat assembly elections. His breakthrough came in the 2014 general elections when he worked with the BJP through his political action group Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG).
Kishor subsequently assisted the JD(U), RJD, and Congress in the 2015 Bihar polls. He joined the JD(U) in 2018 but was expelled by Nitish Kumar in 2020 following differences. He also worked with the YSR Congress in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh elections, the AAP in the 2020 Delhi election, the TMC in the 2021 West Bengal elections, and the DMK in the 2021 Tamil Nadu elections.
Kishor formally launched the Jan Suraaj Party in 2024 and unsuccessfully contested the Bihar 2026 elections before winning the Bankipur bypoll.
