Delhi and Uttarakhand went on high alert after intelligence inputs flagged a possible threat from Khalistani terrorists over the next several days, ANI reported. The alert followed an email that listed temples, government offices, railway stations and police installations as potential targets.
Delhi Police are investigating the email to verify its authenticity and trace its origin, officials said. Security has been stepped up at sensitive locations across both regions.
This is not the first such alert. In January, ahead of Republic Day, intelligence warned of plots by Khalistani groups and Bangladesh-based terror outfits targeting New Delhi and other cities. In February, a potential threat near the Red Fort prompted a similar response, with intelligence indicating a temple in Chandni Chowk could be a target.
Last November, a car bomb outside the Red Fort killed 11 people. The National Investigation Agency linked the attack to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an Al-Qaida offshoot, and filed a 7,500-page chargesheet against 10 accused.
The current alert covers Delhi and Uttarakhand, a state that draws millions of tourists annually. No credible attack has materialized since the November bombing.
