Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said he wants Bengaluru's second international airport to come up near Tumakuru, citing better connectivity for 18-20 districts. He stressed the final decision would be based on recommendations of the technical committee and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Tumakuru sits about 70 km northwest of Bengaluru along National Highway 48, a corridor that already handles heavy freight and commuter traffic toward the port city of Mangaluru. Parameshwara argued the location would serve districts in central and northern Karnataka more efficiently than a site closer to the existing Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli.
