KAL's 225-hole aircore program at Pinjin is underway after subcrop discovery matches the geological model. RC drilling at Lighthorse resumes. Assays from Kirgella Gift pending.
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX:KAL) started aircore drilling at the Pinjin target in Western Australia after uncovering previously undocumented subcrop and outcrop during access preparation.
The subcrop consists of highly sheared granitic gneiss and possibly highly metamorphosed felsic supracrustal rocks. The company said these rocks are likely part of the sheared margin of the Rebecca sequence, the high-grade metamorphic host rocks to Ramelius Resources' Rebecca gold deposit, 20 km along strike to the south.
The rock types and structures match KalGold's geological model for the region, the company said. That strengthened its confidence in the LTZ Flexure targets.
The aircore program covers up to 225 holes for about 10,750 metres, centred 3.5 km southeast of the Kirgella Gift and Providence gold deposits. The rig is drilling in the northeastern corner of the grid, testing a regional-scale flexure in the Laverton Tectonic Zone.
KalGold had previously identified aeromagnetic features – demagnetised zones and structural breaks – coinciding with a shift in LTZ strike from NNW to north-south. Flexures along regional structures like the LTZ can create pathways for mineralising fluids in the right settings, the company noted.
The drilling is expected to run about six weeks. Separately, RC drilling is set to resume at Lighthorse to test strike extensions of gold mineralisation and follow up on earlier intercepts.
Assays from recent RC drilling at Kirgella Gift and Providence remain pending due to extended laboratory turnaround times. The company said it will report results to shareholders once they become available.
KAL shares traded at 3.2 cents before the announcement, giving it a market cap of about A$14.6 million. Results from the Pinjin program are expected within six weeks, while assays from the earlier RC holes at Kirgella Gift and Providence are still overdue.
