J&K Police Arrest Three Publishers Over Separatist School Books

Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three publishers after an FIR filed by the counter intelligence unit in Jammu flagged inappropriate content in school books. Two books found in government libraries contained chapters that glorified separatist leaders, the police said.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration had already withdrawn the books from circulation. Both the publishers and the authors involved have been blacklisted by the administration, according to officials familiar with the matter. The arrests mark the first criminal action tied to the content since the books were pulled.

The counter intelligence unit's FIR did not specify which separatist leaders were named in the chapters. Police said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible. The administration has not commented on whether a broader review of library holdings is planned.
