The project, announced earlier, will add 4 million tonnes per annum of capacity in phases. The first phase should be running within four years, Khulbe said. The facility will produce specialised steel grades for hydrogen, nuclear energy, defence, mobility, infrastructure and process industries.

The Maharashtra government has agreed to speed up permits, registrations and approvals, and will offer fiscal incentives from relevant state departments, the company said.

Jindal Stainless is India's largest stainless steel producer with a combined 3 MTPA capacity at plants in Hisar, Haryana, and Jajpur, Odisha. Once the Maharashtra facility is fully built, total capacity will reach 7 MTPA.
