With two days left until the July 31 ITR deadline, fintech apps offer filing for ₹300 to ₹1,500. Over 4.3 crore returns have been filed so far this season.
The deadline to file income tax returns for assessment year 2026-27 is July 31, two days away. Taxpayers with complex income profiles or investments spread across multiple asset classes are increasingly turning to fintech apps that offer in-app filing, often with tax-saving suggestions and automated import of investment data.
Eshita Gain reported in Mint that several platforms now let users prepare and submit returns without visiting the official e-filing portal. These services charge a fee, typically between ₹300 and ₹1,500 depending on the income type and the level of expert support. The apps integrate banking, investment, and tax information in one place.
More than 4.3 crore ITRs have been filed so far this season, and nearly 4.1 crore returns were verified for the assessment year, according to official data. The tax department's e-filing portal remains the primary platform for all taxpayers. It allows users to log in with their PAN, select the applicable ITR form, verify pre-filled details from Form 16, the Annual Information Statement, and the Taxpayer Information Summary, pay any tax due, and complete e-verification.
Taxpayers unsure which form to use can click “Help me decide” on the portal to check eligibility based on their taxpayer status. The portal also provides access to pre-filled information based on available records.
