The Income Tax Department opened the filing window for assessment year 2026-27 by releasing ITR-5 utilities. The online version went live August 5. The offline utility followed two days later, on August 7.
Entities that fall under ITR-5 – firms, limited liability partnerships, associations of persons, bodies of individuals, cooperative societies, and certain trusts – now have the tools to prepare and submit returns. The form is not for individuals, Hindu undivided families, companies, or those required to file ITR-7.
The deadline depends on whether the entity needs its accounts audited. Taxpayers with a mandated audit face a later filing date. Those without must file earlier. The exact dates were not included in the department's release.
