Iran Guards claim strike on 'enemy' command center in Syria

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said Monday they had launched a surprise attack on an enemy command center in Syria, state media reported.

The IRNA news agency, citing a Guards statement, said the strike targeted a special operations command center in the Al-Tanf region. It was carried out in revenge for the blood of martyred soldiers of Iranshahr, the statement said.

On Sunday, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported funerals for three soldiers killed in a US attack on a barracks in Iranshahr, in the country's southeast.

The Guards had announced on Friday they attacked the Al-Tanf base, which the Syrian army took control of in February after the United States withdrew.

A Syrian military source later denied to AFP that any attack had taken place. The Al-Tanf base is located near Syria's southeastern borders with Jordan and Iraq.
