Ingram Micro's president targets SME and Tier 2/3 markets in India, focusing on margin-calibrated growth over revenue. The distributor's platform play and GCCs support a shift beyond pure IT distribution.
Ingram Micro is pushing further into India's small and medium businesses and cities beyond the top tier, the company's president of the Global Platform Group said. Sanjib Sahoo described India as one of the distributor's largest and fastest-growing markets, though he did not share specific revenue figures.
"We see a lot of innovation happening in India right now. We want to really tap that opportunity, not only the big cities and large enterprises but smaller markets," Sahoo told businessline. He said the firm wants to use its global platform, which allows businesses to customise integrations with original equipment manufacturers and vendors.
The India strategy is built around margin-calibrated growth, not just top-line expansion. Sahoo pointed to endpoint devices and cloud services as core growth drivers, with system integrator partnerships amplifying their reach.
Ingram Micro operates two global capability centres in India. Sahoo said those centres played a central role in the company's shift from a pure IT distributor to a platform-based business connecting hyperscalers, AI companies, hardware vendors and channel partners.
Enterprise AI spending is rising, Sahoo said. Companies are demanding GPUs, AI-optimised networking, security infrastructure and data platforms.
On data sovereignty, he cautioned that excessive localisation can create scalability problems. He recommended a hybrid model: companies maintain global data standards while fine-tuning models to meet local requirements. The approach keeps options open without locking into any single regulatory path.
Sahoo did not reveal how much revenue India currently contributes. The lack of disclosed numbers leaves room for the market to gauge Ingram Micro's actual penetration in SME and Tier 2/3 markets only through vendor partnerships and channel behaviour.
