52 flights on day one as GMR Group's Bhogapuram airport opens with connections to Hyderabad, Abu Dhabi and Singapore. Initial capacity of 6 million passengers annually, expandable to 40 million.

Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram started commercial operations on Monday, with 52 planned air traffic movements on its first day. The airport, developed and operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL), opened with flights connecting Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu handed over boarding passes to passengers on the inaugural IndiGo and Air India Express flights. The first flight of the day was IndiGo 6E 6408 from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam. IndiGo 6E 1443 from Abu Dhabi to Visakhapatnam was the first international flight by an Indian carrier. Scoot flight TR 784 from Singapore to Visakhapatnam was the first international carrier flight.
Air India Express, Air India, IndiGo, Scoot and India One each received a ceremonial water cannon salute on their first arrivals. The airport has an initial capacity of 6 million passengers annually, with plans for phased expansion to handle more than 40 million passengers per year. The 3,800-metre Code 4E runway can handle wide-body aircraft.
