The Indian Army will induct 450 Carl Gustaf M4 rocket launchers, a lighter shoulder-fired weapon designed to boost infantry firepower in high-altitude and mountainous terrain. The system operates across extreme temperature ranges, from desert heat to Himalayan cold, and fires multiple ammunition types including anti-tank, high-explosive dual-purpose (HEDP), smoke, and illumination rounds.
Saab manufactures the M4 at its Haryana facility, which serves both domestic and export orders. The Swedish defense firm has positioned the plant as a regional production hub for the Carl Gustaf family, which has been in service with over 40 countries.
