NSA Ajit Doval chairs the June 22-23 BRICS security meeting focused on non-traditional threats, with implications for India's cybersecurity and defense sector spending.
India will host the BRICS National Security Advisers meeting on June 22-23 in a session chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Ministry of External Affairs said Saturday.
The meeting's theme is "Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today". Officials will discuss how new technologies are reshaping security threats, and review outcomes from BRICS joint working groups on counter-terrorism and on the security of information and communication technologies.
India holds the BRICS chairship for the fourth time in 2026, after previous terms in 2012, 2016 and 2021. The chairmanship's overall theme is "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability", a framework Prime Minister Modi outlined at the 2025 Rio Summit.
BRICS now includes 11 major emerging markets: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. The grouping began with a narrow economic focus but has expanded into political and security cooperation, economic and financial matters, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
For investors, the meeting draws attention to India's role in shaping security governance among developing economies. The agenda's emphasis on technology-driven threats comes as India increases spending on cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. Government contracts in these areas have drawn interest from IT services firms and defense-oriented technology companies.
The meeting concludes Wednesday. No public statement on outcomes has been scheduled.
