IMD warns of landslides, flash floods in north Bengal

Heavy rain will also occur in the south Bengal districts of North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah, Purba and Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram between July 21 and 23, the weather office said.

Murti in Jalpaiguri district recorded West Bengal's highest rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday at 17 cm, the weather office said. Other places that recorded very heavy rainfall during the period include Jalpaiguri at 14 cm, Dalgaon tea estate in Alipurduar at 13 cm, Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri at 13 cm, Raidak tea estate in Alipurduar at 12 cm, Buxaduar in Alipurduar at 11 cm and Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri at 10 cm, according to the IMD data.

The weather office forecast a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain in the state capital Kolkata over the next few days.
