IMCD buys Bangkok-based additives distributor Merit Solution, adding 24 staff and a lab for plastics compounding support in Southeast Asia.
IMCD agreed to buy Merit Solution, a Bangkok-based distributor of additives for the plastics and compounding industry. The deal, announced Monday, adds a team of 24 employees and a laboratory in the Thai capital.
Merit Solution generated about THB 406 million (EUR 10.7 million) in revenue last year. Its customers span plastics, construction and adhesives. The acquisition strengthens IMCD’s presence in Thailand and the broader Southeast Asian market for compounding ingredients.
“The acquisition will strengthen IMCD’s position as a comprehensive solution provider for the plastics and compounding market in Thailand and Southeast Asia,” said Pichit Pornthanalert, managing director of IMCD Thailand. He cited the chance to gain scale, add a talented team and deepen supplier and customer ties.
Merit Solution’s management said the combination lets it offer a broader product range and better support customers in improving product performance, processing efficiency and durability. The seller also mentioned “more sustainable solutions” without giving specifics.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and should close in the third quarter of 2026.
A single-market acquisition of this size – roughly 0.2% of IMCD’s EUR 4.8 billion 2025 revenue – will not move the needle at the group level. It incrementally thickens IMCD’s coverage in a market where competitors such as Brenntag and Univar Solutions also have been building out local distribution networks. The laboratory in Bangkok gives IMCD a local application-development capability, a valuable asset when customers need formulation support rather than just products.
Thailand is a regional hub for automotive plastics and packaging, two high-demand sectors for specialty additives. The Merit Solution deal fits IMCD’s pattern of bolt-on acquisitions in Asian growth markets. The company already had operations in Thailand, and this purchase fills a niche its existing portfolio may have covered only shallowly.
IMCD shares trade on Euronext Amsterdam under the ticker IMCD and are included in the Dutch ESG AEX index. The company employs over 5,200 people globally. For more on IMCD’s recent performance, see the Q1 2026 results analysis.
