Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL) launched GRANUVIA, an insecticide for brown plant hopper (BPH) control in paddy, at an event in Karnataka. The product, developed by Corteva Agriscience and marketed under IIL's brand, targets a pest that can wipe out 20% to 60% of a rice crop in severe outbreaks.
GRANUVIA is designed for a single application 30 to 35 days after transplanting, with protection lasting up to 60 days. It also covers stem borer for roughly two weeks, controlling the "dead heart" phase that cuts yields by 10% to 30% under normal pressure.
Last year, early and prolonged BPH outbreaks hit millions of acres across several states, forcing farmers into two or three spray rounds. Rajesh Kumar Aggarwal, IIL's managing director, said in a statement the product is meant to deliver consistent, long-term control for farmers facing rising pest pressure and changing weather patterns.
Dushyant Sood, IIL's chief marketing officer, said Corteva developed the active ingredient and that GRANUVIA is positioned as a "future-ready solution" for modern rice farming, citing its novel mode of action, field performance and easy application.
IIL already markets a range of crop protection chemicals in India. The company did not disclose pricing or a national rollout timeline beyond the Karnataka launch.
