Hichilema Mocks Mondubile: 'Lampi Paraffin Finished'
President Hakainde Hichilema mocked opposition candidate Brian Mundubile's lamp symbol, saying he has run out of paraffin. Hichilema also defended his maize program and accused rivals of failing to campaign.

President Hakainde Hichilema told a crowd in Chipata on Sunday that opposition candidate Brian Mundubile has run out of money to fuel his campaign. Hichilema, whose party symbol is the ballot box, mocked Mundubile's lamp symbol.
"Paraffin yasila mukali lampi," Hichilema said in the local language, meaning the lamp has run out of paraffin. He said Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu look tired and have accepted defeat.
"Those two boys are tired and they are even failing to campaign. Look at their faces, they are down, they are looking down, they are tired and they have run out of money," Hichilema said.
Zambia holds general elections in 2026. Mundubile, of the National Restoration Party, launched a call for voluntary contributions on Saturday, calling it a people-driven campaign. Hichilema dismissed the effort.
"You think elections are a joke? After being full from eating left over nshima then you say you want to be president? It's not a joke," Hichilema said.
