Graphene Manufacturing Group completed and started its Generation 2.0 graphene production plant, increasing capacity for the advanced material used in batteries and coatings.
Graphene Manufacturing Group has completed construction and started up its Generation 2.0 graphene production plant, the company said. The facility is designed to increase the company's manufacturing capacity for the advanced material.
The Gen 2.0 plant follows an earlier production line and incorporates improvements aimed at higher yield and consistent quality, according to GMG. The company did not disclose the exact capacity increase or the cost of the plant.
Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms, is used in batteries, coatings, and composite materials. Scaling production has been a challenge for the industry, with many producers struggling to move beyond pilot-scale volumes. GMG's new plant is intended to address that bottleneck.
The startup comes as demand for graphene grows in energy storage and industrial coatings. GMG's increased capacity could position it to supply larger customers in those sectors. The company also produces graphene-enhanced coatings and is developing a graphene aluminum-ion battery.
GMG shares trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker GMG and on the OTCQX under GMGMF. The stock was active following the announcement.
