Garuda Aerospace and Micron Instruments will co-develop loitering munitions and advanced UAVs under a new MoU, targeting India's push for indigenous defence manufacturing.
Garuda Aerospace has signed a memorandum of understanding with Micron Instruments to jointly develop loitering munitions, payload-enabled UAVs, and other advanced unmanned systems for the Indian defence sector.
The Chennai-based drone maker will combine its UAV platforms with Micron's precision fuzes and ammunition systems. The partnership targets indigenous production of loitering munitions – drones that loiter over a target area before striking – and other next-generation unmanned systems.
“This collaboration brings together the strengths of two advanced manufacturing organizations,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace. “It opens new opportunities in defence drones, loitering munitions, and next-generation unmanned systems, supporting India’s journey towards technological self-reliance.”
Vikram Sahgal, chairman and managing director of Micron Instruments, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to developing homegrown solutions that strengthen India's defence ecosystem.
The MoU comes as India pushes for greater self-reliance in defence manufacturing under its Atmanirbhar Bharat policy. The government has increased the defence capital acquisition budget and set higher indigenous procurement targets, creating a more favourable environment for domestic defence startups and manufacturers.
Garuda Aerospace has been expanding its defence portfolio beyond commercial drone applications. The company has previously supplied drones for agricultural mapping, surveillance, and disaster response. Micron Instruments manufactures precision fuzes, defence ammunition systems, and critical military components for both domestic and export markets.
Loitering munitions represent a growing segment of modern warfare, with several countries investing in the technology. The partnership positions both companies to capture a share of that market while meeting Indian military requirements for indigenously developed systems.
