FSSAI Suspends Westend Agro, Rehaan Healthcare Licenses

On Friday, FSSAI announced that Rehaan Healthcare's license had been suspended and the firm was directed to cease all food business activities until all deficiencies were rectified and compliance was verified. The company's health supplement and nutraceutical unit manufactured digestive syrup, multivitamin syrup, and other syrup-based products. “The manufacturing premises were found to be extremely unhygienic and unorganised. Sediments of filth and sludge accumulated under the manufacturing tank, disorganised storage of raw materials and poor housekeeping created a serious cross-contamination,” FSSAI said. It noted that the unit made health supplements and nutraceuticals, a high-risk category of food consumed by children and other vulnerable groups. “The unhygienic conditions and a failure of food safety poses a serious and imminent threat to public health,” the regulator added.

Separately, FSSAI said an adjudication order had been passed against Sopan Restaurant after analysis of a Nova Flavoured Double Toned Milk sample collected from the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. The State Public Health Laboratory, Assam, declared the sample substandard. “Strict regulatory action has been taken following the testing of a food sample collected from train services in Chandigarh - Dibrugarh Express,” FSSAI said. A penalty was imposed.

Both Westend Agro and Rehaan Healthcare must rectify the violations and undergo fresh inspection before their licenses can be reinstated. Neither company has publicly commented on the suspensions.
