FSSAI suspends Marche Retail, bans SDP ghee sales over violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India suspended the food business license of Marche Retail Pvt Ltd in New Delhi on Sunday and barred Daman-based SDP Industries from selling any ghee variant after inspections revealed food safety violations.

Marche Retail's license was suspended for 30 days after a regulator inspection and follow-up scrutiny turned up "deficiencies relating to design, operational controls, sanitation, personal hygiene, food-handler training and mandatory record-keeping," the FSSAI said in a social media post. The regulator cited "serious regulatory deficiencies" including obstruction of statutory duties, non-cooperation with food safety officers, the requirement of police assistance, and unendorsed food service and raw meat-related activities. The company has been ordered to immediately cease all food business operations until it takes corrective action.
