A special education teacher has launched a free, multilingual AI platform that helps families understand Individualized Education Programs, or IEPs, and related school documents. Trevor Brown, a teacher in San Mateo, California, built S.S. Education after watching parents struggle with lengthy legal language and unfamiliar procedures. The platform accepts uploaded IEPs, Section 504 plans, evaluations, and meeting notes, then returns plain-language explanations, flags details that may need attention, and suggests questions to ask the school. It does not replace the IEP team, a professional evaluation, legal advice, or an advocate, Brown said.
"An IEP meeting can feel like it has its own language," Brown said in a statement. "I've watched parents come into meetings wanting to help their child but unsure what the document means or which questions they should ask. That challenge can be even greater when English is not the language a family is most comfortable using."
