formae 0.88 Rethinks Infrastructure Docs for AI Agents

Platform Engineering Labs shipped formae 0.88 on Monday, a major release of its open-source infrastructure platform that reorients the tool around collaboration between human engineers and AI agents.

The New York-based startup has seen nearly 2.5 million downloads of formae artifacts since launch. The 0.88 release reflects a shift the company's founders say they observed in the field: infrastructure engineering is no longer just about writing code. It is about keeping that code accurate, auditable, and accessible to both people and machines in real time.

"Infrastructure engineering has entered a new phase where collaboration between humans and AI is becoming essential," said Pavlo Baron, co-founder and CEO. "To make that collaboration successful, both need immediate access to the same infrastructure knowledge, based on their own specific workflows and guardrails."

The release overhauls three layers at once. The interactive CLI has been redesigned. The infrastructure authoring model now uses typed properties with early validation, which the company says makes definitions easier for both humans and AI to generate correctly. Documentation has been restructured entirely, not just for human readers but as a machine-readable source that AI assistants can query directly.

That last piece is the one Baron and his co-founder, CTO Zachary Schneider, emphasize most. AI agents trained on static snapshots of a platform's documentation quickly fall out of date. formae's docs are now structured so an agent can retrieve continuously updated platform knowledge, generate accurate code, and make recommendations based on the current release.
