First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos jokingly called San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora a senator on Monday. She made the remark during the rollout of the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang Rice Distribution program at the FilOil Centre, where thousands of senior citizens received rice assistance.
“, I am not here because of the injection, I am here because of your mayor–senator?” Marcos said, recalling her visit to San Juan with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for a COVID-19 vaccination.
A total of 8,898 senior citizens will get 10 kilograms of rice four times this year under the Local Government Support Fund-backed program. On Monday, 4,400 beneficiaries received their second wave. Zamora’s office said the remaining beneficiaries should receive theirs within the week.
The first lady's playful tease adds to speculation about Zamora's political trajectory. He has been San Juan mayor since 2019.
