Experts Downplay Covid Panic as Indian States Ramp Up Vigil
Doctors said the virus is endemic and seasonal fluctuations are normal. The Health Ministry said it is monitoring but no need to worry. No new restrictions have been announced.

Health experts across India urged the public not to panic after suspected new Covid-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu and Odisha increased surveillance. The doctors said the virus is now endemic and seasonal fluctuations are normal.
“Covid-19 continues to circulate, and occasional increases in cases can occur from time to time,” said Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi. He cited factors such as changes in the virus, waning immunity and increased social interaction as potential drivers. The vast majority of infections remain mild, he added, so there is no reason for alarm.
The monsoon season typically brings a rise in viral infections, making extra caution worthwhile. Chatterjee advised good hand hygiene and staying home when unwell. Older adults, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses should be especially careful, he said.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said it is closely monitoring the situation and that there is no need to worry.
