Experian customers in the U.K. can now pull their credit scores inside OpenAI's ChatGPT. The upgrade, announced Thursday, marks the first time a credit bureau has embedded a live score into an AI chatbot for consumers. The company said the move is about meeting people where they already seek financial advice. "As people increasingly seek money advice on a range of different channels, it's important the information they get is accurate and genuine," Edu Castro, managing director of Experian consumer services for the U.K. and Ireland, said in a statement. Castro said the strategy is especially aimed at younger consumers "who are growing up with AI as their first port of call for financial questions." The release acknowledged that AI platforms often return generic, publicly available information that can be inaccurate. By plugging in the Experian Credit Score directly, the company said it solves that problem. The score is used in eight out of 10 credit card applications in the U.K., making it one of the most relevant indicators consumers can access, Experian said. The integration is the latest in a series of AI moves. In June, Experian launched a trusted agentic AI layer within its Ascend Platform for financial services clients. Days later, it began letting consumers explore personal loan offers from its partners through ChatGPT. The broader trend is that consumers are getting more comfortable with AI for money management. PYMNTS Intelligence data from July showed that 58% to 69% of generative AI users say they use it more often now than when they started, depending on the task. The pattern suggests a reinforcing cycle: better tools produce better results, users learn to write better instructions, and the combination expands AI's usefulness. For Experian, the bet is that embedding its proprietary data inside the most popular chatbot will deepen engagement and make its credit score more central to how people check their financial health. No date was given for a potential U.S. rollout.
