Alan Mele, former UBS and PaineWebber executive, becomes COO at AI1 Technologies to lead ScoreAI MBS repayment scoring and AI lending marketplace expansion.
AI1 Technologies has appointed Alan Mele as chief operating officer and vice president of business development, the company said Wednesday. Mele, a former executive director at UBS and PaineWebber, also founded and managed Tribal Capital Markets, a firm focused on debt capital markets and mortgage-backed securities.
Mele will oversee expansion of institutional and strategic relationships for AI1's ScoreAI MBS Repayment Scoring and Optimization initiative and the ai1 AI Lending Marketplace. ScoreAI is designed as a borrower-behavior intelligence layer that helps MBS buyers, aggregators, servicers, and loan sellers evaluate loan-level drivers of margin degradation before they show up in realized performance, the company said.
The system uses enhanced loan tapes, monthly loan-status tracking, macro-aware machine learning models, and large historical mortgage-performance datasets to identify risk inside a loan pool. It is meant to complement existing CPR/OAS, cash-flow, and desk analytics workflows.
"Alan brings the rare combination of debt capital markets experience, risk management judgment, and institutional relationships that ai1 needs as we move ScoreAI deeper into the MBS and secondary mortgage markets," said Philip Wallace, chief executive officer of AI1 Technologies.
Mele's appointment comes as AI1 advances a broader strategy that connects origination intelligence, enhanced loan-tape formation, post-funding loan-status monitoring, MBS repayment analytics, and an upcoming marketplace for lender and investor matching. The company believes this closed-loop architecture can improve pool selection, post-purchase surveillance, and secondary-market execution by turning static loan tapes into monitored behavior-scored assets.
ScoreAI addresses specific risks including default drift, early prepayment, refinance runoff, irregular payment behavior, extension and stickiness, fraud or anomaly signals, and tape-quality risk. By scoring loan-level behavior, the system aims to give MBS participants a forward-looking view of where losses or prepayments may concentrate.
Wallace said Mele's experience in debt capital markets and risk management will help accelerate growth of the ScoreAI customer base and the broader AI lending marketplace strategy.
