Employers have until Oct. 31 to enrol workers who missed EPF coverage from 2009 to 2026, with waived employee shares and a fully digital process.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation gave establishments until Oct. 31, 2026 to bring eligible workers who missed provident fund coverage between April 2009 and March 2026 into the formal system, the Ministry of Labour & Employment said in a press release Saturday.
The Employees’ Enrolment Campaign, 2026, effective June 29, is a one-time window for companies to regularise past records and extend provident fund, pension and insurance benefits to employees who remained outside EPF coverage for the 17-year period. Workers must be alive and have active employment status with the establishment on the date of declaration.
To encourage voluntary compliance, the scheme offers administrative reliefs for past omissions. The release noted a waiver of the employee's share of contributions where it was not deducted earlier, subject to campaign conditions. Employers must generate a face authentication-based Universal Account Number through the UMANG mobile app for each declared employee and remit statutory contributions via the Electronic Challan-cum-Return platform.
Establishments are also required to conduct internal audits of employment and wage records to identify qualifying individuals. The entire process – registration and payments – is digital, run through a designated online portal only.
The ministry said the campaign targets both establishments and workers by providing a structured mechanism to bring eligible employees within the statutory social security framework without the burden of full past compliance costs.
EPFO is running awareness and outreach activities targeting employers, workers, contractors and industry stakeholders. Central ministries, state governments, public-sector undertakings and autonomous bodies are coordinating to ensure wider dissemination among establishments under their administrative control.
