FSSAI issued notices to 15 food companies including Emami's Healthy & Tasty for misleading brand names and organic claims. Emami shares fell ~2%.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issued notices to 15 food companies for brand names and product claims it says deceive consumers. Emami's edible oil brand Healthy & Tasty, snacks maker Healthy Master, supplement seller Neuherbs True Vitamin, and organic-label brands Organic Wisdom, Shine Organic and Two Brothers Organic Farms are on the list.
FSSAI posted on social media platform X that the companies must "strictly comply with the established labelling and display regulations to prevent consumer deception."
The regulator's notices highlight specific violations. Healthy Master, The Health Factory (Zero Maida Whole Wheat Bread and Zero Maida Pizza Base), Healthy Choice (Poha), Emami's Healthy & Tasty, and Health Aid (Salmon Oil) carry trade names "likely to mislead the consumers," FSSAI said. Troovy's Healthy Mix chips use the word "healthy" despite containing other ingredients, it added.
Neuherbs True Vitamin drew scrutiny because the term "True Vitamin" is neither defined nor recognised under FSSAI rules. Plant B, sold under the name "PLAN B Plant Based Vegan," implies vegan status without prior approval or a vegan food endorsement in its FSSAI license.
Organic Wisdom, Shine Organic and Two Brothers Organic Farms face a separate problem. Their brand names suggest organic certification they do not hold, according to FSSAI. The regulator noted the absence of the required Jaivik Bharat logo and organic endorsement.
For equity investors, Emami is the only publicly listed company among the recipients. The stock fell about 2% in early trade after the news. Emami said in a stock exchange filing that it is reviewing the notice and will take appropriate steps. The FSSAI action adds regulatory scrutiny to a brand that competes in the large edible oil market against companies like Adani Wilmar and Ruchi Soya.
The other affected companies are mostly unlisted or privately held. Healthy Master, Troovy, and Health Aid operate in the snack and supplement space. The organic brands target a niche, high-growth segment. Their direct impact on listed peers such as Britannia, Nestlé India, or Marico is limited because those companies already follow stricter labelling norms, said two analysts tracking the sector.
FSSAI has not imposed fines or suspensions. The notices direct compliance with labelling and display regulations. The next step is likely a hearing or a compliance deadline, similar to earlier enforcement actions. Investors in Emami will track whether the regulator escalates with a product batch ban or a monetary penalty.
The crackdown fits a broader FSSAI push against misleading claims in packaged foods. Earlier this year, the regulator issued fresh front-of-pack labelling guidelines and is expected to cap sugar, salt, and saturated fat in certain categories. The current action targets brand names and organic endorsements. The shift from advisory to enforcement is gradual and case by case, the analysts said.
