Eala vows to keep flying PH flag after Wimbledon run

Marcos gave Eala a presidential citation the same day she hit a new career-best WTA ranking of No. 28.

"I'm so grateful that I am able to share my triumphs, most especially my recent run at Wimbledon with the country," Eala said. "As we say, this is all our victory. I cannot begin to describe how overjoyed I am to see how my progress has been received by the Filipino people."

She said she takes pride in being Filipino and carries the flag wherever she goes. "I am a firm believer that where you come from is a big part of who you are," she said.

Eala next plays the Mubadala DC Open, a WTA 500 event in Washington, D.C., starting July 27. That tournament kicks off her North American hard-court swing, which ends at the US Open.
