Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is planting its flag inside North America’s largest shopping mall. The Texas-based chain will open a location in the West Edmonton Mall food court on Friday, June 26, with a grand-opening party that includes free sliders for the first 50 customers and a year-long 20% discount for the first 50 guests through the door.
The move brings Legit. Texas. Barbecue. to a mall that draws roughly 32 million visitors a year. Edmonton already has a Dickey’s outpost in Fort Saskatchewan. The new spot is run by owner-operators Albin George, Jinu Jose and Teena Mathew – their second location in the area.
“We’ve seen firsthand how much Edmonton embraces great barbecue,” Jose said in the announcement. “Bringing Dickey’s to West Edmonton Mall allows us to introduce our slow-smoked Texas flavors to even more guests from across the region and beyond.”
The 20% discount applies to dine-in menu items and Packs, capped at $250 per week. Winners can use it up to three times a week all year. No minimum purchase. The deal cannot be stacked with other promotions.
Dickey’s slow-smokes many of its proteins for up to 12 hours. The mall location offers dine-in, takeout, grab-and-go, and delivery through SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats and DoorDash. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with shorter Sunday hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The chain – founded in 1941 by World War I veteran Travis Dickey, now run by the third generation – bills itself as the world’s largest barbecue restaurant brand. It continues to expand internationally by partnering with local owner-operators. The West Edmonton Mall store is part of that push.
The restaurant also plans to work with local schools, sports teams and nonprofits through fundraising and sponsorships.
